There are a number of projects underway in the village to try and make Temple Normanton a better place to live for it’s residents and visitors:
Outdoor Exercise Equipment
The recreation field in the village now boasts a new outdoor gym for use by the whole community.
Temple Normanton Parish Council has funded a variety of exercise gym equipment
From the younger to the more senior residents in the village, the gym offers the whole community the opportunity to work out, increase strength and fitness levels.
Located adjacent to a play park, parents can also exercise whilst supervising their children.
Benefits of Exercising Outdoors
Studies have shown that physical activity outdoors lowers an individual’s blood pressure and heart rate. As a result, exercise outdoors feels less strenuous than similar exercise indoors, which, in turn, pushes you closer to your maximum performance.
Indoor germs and bacteria spread less outdoors and the vitamin D from natural daylight gives your immune system a boost. Trying out some of the local park outdoor gym equipment, which is completely free to use to the public, supports an active lifestyle and being active outdoors regularly is known to reduce depression, as well as stress levels.
Fresh outdoor air and natural sunlight invigorate the body and give you more energy. Seratonin release increases when you breathe in greater amounts of oxygen from exercising outside. Seratonin promotes a sense of happiness and well-being so the more fresh air you breathe in, the more it will boost your mood.
Outdoor gyms encourage communities to mix fresh air with fitness and as a result – a community feels much healthier and much happier.
Woodland
The woodland area between the village allotments and Springwood Street is constantly under development to make it a better resource for our community.
Whilst it has always been a beautifully populated area of trees and wild flowers, appreciating it’s beauty was often difficult as the paths would become overgrown and often inaccessible.
With Parish Council funding and various grants, a number of permanent pathways throughout the woodland have been created with benches along the way. Many of the available grants for this kind of venture are only available for startup projects and do not contribute to the ongoing maintenance, so due to a lack of funds the woodland area has been neglected in recent years.
A number of residents have taken it upon themselves to rectify the problem and try to restore the area back to a facility that can be enjoyed by residents and dog walkers both young and old. Existing pathways have been cleared and several new ‘soft’ paths have been created through the woodland and we encourage you to explore the new paths and keep an eye out for the lovely flowers and wildlife. Please tread carefully though as some of the soft paths are a little uneven under foot.
Hanging Baskets
For the third year running we have invested in floral displays throughout the parish.
The displays can be found upon lamp posts and add a lovely splash of colour to the village.
